Year 11 Biology Camp

16/10/2014

18 year 11 Biology students and two teachers experienced an excursion with a difference when they travelled to Cape Upstart for a three day camp last weekend.  They were transported to the Cape in style on the VMR (Volunteer Marine Rescue) boat the Delta One.  The VMR members then explained the role of the VMR and its importance to the community.

At the Cape, the students conducted a number of field studies on the rocky shoreline and the mangroves that grow in the creeks at Moonlight Bay and Molongle. They took water and soil samples from the beach, the mountain and the brackish water that was left in the Gorge main pool. They also identified much of the native flora and fauna.

Reflecting on their discoveries, the group were required to evaluate the effect that any new development might have on the Cape Upstart ecosystem and produce a PowerPoint or video piece substantiating their findings.

It was a very educational excursion and will be long remembered as the best Biology trip ever.
