Along with several other marquee events on the HHSHS calendar, the swimming carnival had to be postponed to later in the term due to Covid 19. With the carnival rescheduled to 25 March, we escaped the usual heat that comes at the beginning of term and parents, staff and students all enjoyed a fantastic day.
House captains led rowdy war cries as everyone got into the spirit at a special parade on Thursday' Spirit Day. And on Friday there was a riot of colour as everyone turned up in theme. Upstart went back to the 80s, Inkerman turned into Inmates and Beachmount threw a PJ Party!
The swimming carnival was a massive success with many students participating at their highest level and the points relay was a favourite with staff and students.
The winning house on 630 points, after a thirty-year drought, was Inkerman! This was a massive, and popular surprise to everyone including house captains Hayley Minuzzo and Aaliyah Gibson, who joyfully accepted the trophy. Upstart was second with 590 points, while Beachmount finished third on 462.
We have to thank all the staff who assisted in organising and running the carnival. Also, a big thanks go to the managers at the Home Hill Pool – Lloyd and Lisa Shepherd and the Home Hill Swimming Club for letting us use their equipment, the year 12s and many other students, along with all staff who assisted on the day and helped with setting up and cleaning up afterwards. It was a fantastic team effort.
