Drama Festival

Home Hill SHS 2014 Drama Festival cast
This year, the Interschool Drama Festival was hosted by Home Hill SHS and was quite an undertaking. It required many hours of planning and administration. This year, Drama Coordinator Mrs Viero was ably assisted in this task by year 12 student Christina Postma. Christina approached local businesses for sponsorship, designed the programs and acted as MC, along with Ryan Attard on the night. Their efforts, along with others including Miss Clark, Mr Gall and Mrs Armstrong were greatly appreciated.
Our school’s play this year told the tale of Captain Blackboot and his pirates who were looking for their lost treasure. Along the way they encountered a mysterious castaway, a trio of ornithologists, a reporter and a rival band of female pirates led by Scurvy Sal. Trying to outsmart each other, the pirates let spies loose in the enemy lines. The hilarious comedy saw men dressed as women, women dressed as men and a slightly nutty Queen who set them all a challenge.  No one was safe, not even the audience who were attacked by a band of marauding pirates.
Best actor award went to Daniel Zamperoni for his portrayal of menacing (yet whiny) Captain Blackboot. The best supporting actor was Joven Barker for his depiction of the tough, manly pirate Pitt who was forced, along with Swink (Patrick Ryan) to dress as a dancing girl to infiltrate the enemy’s crew. The Director’s award went to Cassie Loizou who gave a stellar performance as rival pirate Captain Scurvy Sal.
The Drama Festival is always a highlight of the school’s calendar and Mrs Viero’s imagination has already started churning out ideas for next year’s play!
