Home Hill State High School in partnership with the Burdekin Church Leaders, Scripture Union NQ, and Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) have employed me as school chaplain.  My role of school chaplain involves:

  • Providing emotional and spiritual support for students, parents and staff of the school.
  • Encouraging and motivating young people.
  • Participating in school activities.
  • Providing practical care and support for students, their families and school staff.
  • Helping out and/or providing lunch time groups.
  • Helping out and/or providing general programs at school eg/Brekkie club, Chappies Chillax Room, Girls with A Purpose Group.
  • Bringing guest speakers/performances to the school who have positive life enhancing messages.
  • Sharing the school journey and supporting the school community in anyway I can.

As the school chaplain, I work with the school to give our students the best possible experience during their time here, making them better prepared for life after school.  I have a wealth of experience with working with adolescents. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, Counselling and Welfare Studies.  It is my hope that this experience, coupled with my passion for helping young people, will be of great benefit to this school community.

I work at the school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Students, staff and parents are free to approach me anytime at school to simply say “hello” or to arrange a time to meet with me.  Alternatively I can be contacted by telephone via the school office to arrange an appointment time.  Use of the chaplaincy service is on a voluntary basis. If you do not wish your child to utilise the chaplaincy service or programs in any way, forms are available at the office for you to complete.

Any complaints regarding the school’s chaplaincy service can be addressed by contacting the school principal and discussing any concerns you may have.

Regular school community consultation is conducted via various means including P & C meetings, monthly school newsletter articles by school chaplain, weekly school support staff meetings, monthly local chaplaincy committee meetings and regular meetings between the school chaplain and her school appointed line supervisor.
