Whitsundays Adventure

In Week 10 of Term 3, our Year 11 students embarked on
an unforgettable three-day Leadership Camp to the
Whitsundays. This special camp was designed to
challenge students, strengthen teamwork, and build the
leadership skills that will carry them into their senior year.
The camp began with a scenic journey north, with a quick
stop at the iconic Big Mango in Bowen before arriving at
Airlie Beach. After settling in, students dived straight into
team-building sessions and leadership activities that set
the tone for the days ahead. We were also honoured to
welcome Principal Mrs O’Neill, who travelled to Airlie
Beach to speak with our students. Her commitment and
encouragement were greatly appreciated. A highlight of
the first night was the much-anticipated “Letter P Night”,
where students brought along creative costumes and
shared plenty of laughter.
Day two was all about adventure and connection with
nature. Students boarded the ZigZag Whitsundays boat
for an incredible day at South Whitehaven Beach,
complete with a hike to the lookout and snorkelling in the
crystal-clear waters of the Coral Sea. Phones were
returned to students for this day, allowing them to
capture the stunning scenery while still staying focused
on their leadership journey. The evening wrapped up
with trivia, reflection, and more leadership-focused
activities.
On the final day, students explored Airlie Beach township
before one last group lunch and the journey home. The
camp balanced fun, relaxation, and meaningful growth,
with many students stepping out of their comfort zones
and discovering new strengths.
We are incredibly proud of how our Year 11s represented
Home Hill State High School. Their enthusiasm,
teamwork, and commitment to each other made this
camp a memorable experience and a strong foundation
as they prepare to take on their Year 12 leadership roles
in 2026.
A special thanks to Deputy Principal Mrs Ogomeni &
GO Matthew Perina for making this camp such
a valuable experience.
