LIONS YOUTH OF THE YEAR
On the 24th of February, four Year 12 students participated in the 2025
Lions’ Youth of the Year Quest. This year’s participants included Christiana Bugeja, Grace Ogomeni, Cruz Torkington and Sam Perina. Throughout the day, each senior student was interviewed by a panel of community representatives before delivering a prepared speech and two impromptu speeches in the evening. Impromptu topics included the questions, ‘What is real friendship?’ and ‘If you could be a fly on the wall, who’s wall would you be on?’
The judges were most impressed by the entrants, commenting that, each entrant had his/her own set of strengths. They were also heralded as the best public speaking group they have ever had, and the judges have been the same for many years now. Christiana Bugeja won the public speaking section, but Sam Perina was the overall winner, who will move onto the next cycle of this competition. This round will take place on the 15th of March in Townsville. Here he will represent our school and community, highlighting our school’s pillars of Learning, Performance and Citizenship. Congratulations for achieving this level.
A heart felt thank you goes to the Lions of the Burdekin Club, and those students, teachers and parents who were involved in this annual event.
