Next term will see the start of the construction of the Agricultural Precinct with the construction of a greenhouse/grow-house, a reasonably large shed/store, and a fertigation system. It will continue to encompass a broad range of students across many year levels engaging with a variety of relevant agri-topics and industry bodies.
We have also been fortunate enough that Navarre Minerals Queensland of Mt Carlton (previously owned by Evolution Mining) has agreed to join us in a partnership on this project of $300,000 - to allow us to add on a produce sorting and packing area and cold-room set up. This should allow us to create a commercial like set-up that really allows students to experience contemporary agricultural learnings.
It is great to see a company active in the local area come aboard to this extent. None of this would have eventuated without the support from a wide range of local agricultural companies, farms and grower services. It is great to see the strong contextual linkage between our local community and our school in this area.
